Daily Drawing for Sept. 7
The prompt from my fiancé was “jello castle”. Jello is tough, bee tee dubs.
I find that using a displacement map on the background, coupled with base color (50% opacity), highlight, shadow and “recolor” layers make for a sufficiently jello look. What I mean by “recolor” is an additional layer (normal blending mode, 80-100% opacity) where I repainted some of the too transparent areas where the thickest jello should be.
This the first time I tried to do severely distorting translucent objects, and I think the approach I took was a very workable one. It was only a 20 minute sketch, but a bit more refining would definitely yield a professional illustration
