Commander’s Coin Design

In the military, high ranking officers and enlisted frequently have challenge coins made, which they give to soldiers who have gone above and beyond their duties. It’s an unofficial way to say thanks for a job well done.

During my deployment to Kosovo, I redesigned three of those coins for the highest ranking soldiers of the Battle Group: the commander, the deputy commander, and the command sergeant major.

The prior coins weren’t up to snuff, so I was approached to make better ones.

General Design Flow:

  1. I receive the brief
  2. Initial sketches and designs are created
  3. Three or four are presented to the client
  4. A round of revisions take place
  5. A final design is OK’d
  6. That design goes to the mint
